Other than a handful of NFLD coins, this is a grade you just do not see ICCS assign very often... MS-64 Lustrous Red & Brown http://www.ebay.com/itm/370891328445edit: by the way, I don't agree with the grade... the ICCS comment caught my eye. I saw another coin from ICCS that was a blue toned 1 cent piece that was given a MS64 lustrous brown designation..... It gave me hope for my toners, and I'm considering sending them in.

That is a very nice coin it will be interesting to see what it actually sells for. I am guessing around $75 tops.

Personally, I think it's an overgraded coin.
Looks like ICCS dropped the ball grading that coin an ms64.
I'm quite surprised at some of the above responses.

Coin Chick, save your money when it comes to toned 1-cent coins and ICCS. Back in 2008, I sent in a beautiful toned 1974 specimen cent (from a double cent specimen set) - surface wise, the coin was absolutely perfect, but had a rich blue toning on one side.
It came back SP-63 brown... I thought that was bloody ridiculous, and I immediately cut it out of the fresh ICCS, and chalked it up to a lesson learned. That said, I have sent in toned 1-cent coins to PCGS and they do grade them accurately... I am considering sending in some of my gem-toned 1-cent coins to PCGS in the future and creating a toned Canadian 1-cent showcase set.

SPP-Ott...I totally agree with you.
Gorgeous, flawless TONED copper always grades out far too low at ICCS.
PCGS would be a much better choice (probably the ONLY time I personally endorse PCGS over ICCS).

I'm kinda meh on this coin. Good strike, but the marks are pretty deep. I think 63RB would be more accurate as well.

I have gotten some fantastically beautiful older toned proof-like and business strike coins, quite cheap in ICCS PL- or MS-63 brown holders and have gotten 65 and 66 grades from PCGS... in the end, trust your own eyes - a nicely toned coin, with eye-appeal, will always be a good coin...

ICCS SP-62 brown = ICCS SP-64 Red (in terms of the surfaces).... not gambling on that one...

How does CCCS fair with grading toned coins? Has anyone tried?

doubleeagle59, the 1904 MS64LRB is my posting.. Admittedly I'm a bit surprised by the 64 grade myself given the marks in the fields, but looking at the coin in hand it really is quite lustrous and perhaps that overall appeal helped tip the scales?

I have seen several pre-1937 specimen strikes and some NFLD coins get the MS-64LB grade... yet post-1950 toned PL and specimen cents, with otherwise perfect surfaces, do not.

jello_g......Pictures can definitely misrepresent the actual coin's appearance, hence its grade.
Assuming the coin has a good deal of lustre and given the higher magnification of the picture, I can see a possible grade of ms64 for the coin.
