Hi everyone,

I purchased some CC Morgans a while back and have been meaning to post this particular coin for some time.

The coin is an 1882 CC GSA Morgan with some unusual lettering, I've tried to research the coin using various VAM websites however, I've been unable to pin-point the exact VAM.

Here are some pictures of the coin below, unfortunately its quite difficult to get a clear image through the GSA cover:

1882-CC-VAM

1882-CC-VAM

1882-CC-VAM

1882-CC-VAM

If anyone could help me identify the VAM(and possibly help with an approximate grade) that would be fantastic!

Tough call based on smaller images. The doubling you see in the lettering, I think, is a form of Machine Doubling; it's not an indicator of any specific VAM. Attributing 1882-CC starts with the date and mint mark orientation. There are only a few die pars known, as befits a mintage of just over one million. I'm going to theorize.

I *think* I see the characteristic displaced top of a 1 under the first 8, and the cluttered inside of the mint mark, indicative of the VAM-2 series. I *don't* see any clashing, particularly the lip counterclashing characteristic of the 2C variants. So, I'm tentatively calling this VAM-2A2.

As regards grade, the images are a bit too small and the obverse toning tends to obfuscate. I will say this much, though: It's nice. If you force me, I lean "strong MS64" on it.

Thanks very much SsuperDdave for your reply. I've tried to take a photo of the 1882 and some other features up-close to help with the identification:

Cheers
