Under a million minted for USA coins is relatively rare. For Canadian it generally takes under 100,000 before you start getting into key date territory.

The '35 dime is difficult to find in Mintstate grades. In the 2013 I.C.C.S. population reports it boasts the top three most difficult to acquire mintstate examples of the King George V dimes. I've been trying to upgrade my I.C.C.S., MS-63 for the past 10 years now and find it very difficult to do.

Why is that ? Maybe because of the population difference?

As EastVanRob and Glenn have stated ...it's a tough find in high MS.

All of those 35 silver dollars were often protected and placed away ,..and yet so few little 35 dimes seem to have had the same fate. Hard to understand from a collectors point of view. Were the coin bags 'of the day' mishandled?

Glenn..How far up are you trying to get with your 35 search?

I'd like to acquire an MS-64, however, I'm in no hurry since I have a beautiful MS-63 which I feel I.C.C.S. has severely undergraded and is actually an MS-64. (maybe I should re-submit) So I may keep mine? I know about the MS-65, Dave Hunt @ Coinmanrt has had that piece for sale for quite some time now. Hard to justify $3K for one dime.

Glenn...A beautiful MS 63 has to be a very nice coin.
Would you ever consider sending it down to PCGS for a possible point higher?

I am seriously thinking of sending many of my older graded ICCS down to PCGS. . Like you, I feel that many of mine are under-graded ..by today's viewed listings.

Grade creep seems to be alive and well these days.

I may re-submit a batch of my coins to I.C.C.S. after removing them from their "old" holders. Personally I don't believe in grade creep, I think that I.C.C.S. is finally giving a coin the credibility it deserves. So when a Collector sends in a EF-40 quarter, it returns slabbed as an EF-40 unlike days gone by>VF-20!

DEVLEC - From what I've seen of your collection, I wouldn't both re-submitting. Keep them in their old holders. Seeing a coin in an old ICCS holder makes people look twice, and anyone buying the high end coins you have will be able to determine the grade accurately. Personally, I don't think it would be worth the money to re-submit them. If you do, look at every coin and choice wisely.

I concur with jg86... go to any major coin auction, and it does not matter if the coin is raw, in an older flip or in a newer flip, when the hammer falls, it is eye-appeal that dictates how aggressive the bid is. DEVLEC, your coins have eye-appeal and grades that speak for themselves - your investment is secure...

That said, I digress, because if you have coins that could be top 5, then the registry set players come into play... or if you want to play the registry set game yourself... then your best stuff should go to PCGS.
