Out on my deck taking advantage of the sunny weather, and I decide to photograph some of my large cents.

I am putting them back into 2x2 holders, and one drops from my hand and starts rolling around me on the deck. (might I add that the deck is sealed and would take a ton of time to get under it).

All I could hear and see was the tinkle and flash of the coin rollling, and it stops.... clunk.....

I understand how dumb it is to drop a coin, and almost loose, but I was just working with common coins right?

GASP!!.... forgot this was on the table, awaiting a brand new holder.....

Yep that is the one and the same sitting up right on the deck, in between the deck boards. None the worse for wear (I hope)....

At least it didn't go through the boards. On my deck it would have.

I think if I dropped that through the deck cracks the saw would be coming out. Good thing the boards where close together. Lucky save

Interestingly enough , this is the only close space, it passed by three other cracks, and stopped here....whew!

On a side note... if that decking is made of wood and not a composite product... I'm worried there isn't enough spacing between the decking... wood needs some space to swell as it takes on moisture..

Very glad your coin is okay...... and I long for the day where I can call a '58 large cent a common coin in my collection...

Back in the day, when someone was building a wooden deck, wouldn't they use a large cent as a spacer between each board?

So glad that it was a wooden deck surface and not ceramic or cement........ Important lesson there......

I have also tried to get my best coin pics while on the deck,...but they never leave the ICCS holders...2 sheets of plastic makes for a very frustrating pic taking time.

My 58 is anything but common. This is one of two that I have, the other one in the safe, a graded one that has a nice rotated die.

Every time I put a deck or fence together.. I've always used a popsicle stick... that's right as a friend my labour is pretty cheap... you just have to have a few cold beers and a popsicle or two around...

As for the penny... I'm glad that no coins were hurt in this endevour..
