Fun video argentum ... many thanks for sharing it.

Wondering where the acetone went at your initial dump of the glass bowl ... hopefully not on the floor.

Agreed with jbuck ... success

I was outside-ish, nickelsearcher, under the overhang of our barn, so my rinses did not go on the floor per se. I dumped it on the gravel outside.

The capsule it came in got splashed in the 15 minutes of raw footage I took, and so was ruined and tossed into the trash can to my left.

After:
> a Bit of abrasion on her ear and breast from sliding around in the bowl (oops)
> Ghosting of the lettering on the reverse, see by the R in Dollar, not woth the effort to capture the rest.
> Some milkyness in general, but it's a more pleasing coin now:

Nice job. Acetone can be handled with or without gloves.I do not wear gloves but, that is me.
If you are unsure about how sensitive your skin is wear the gloves.
The cooling you felt is a natural reaction on your skin I believe.
And the grade is?

I don't care about the grade, just getting the paint off of it.

@bpoc: It was less about the effects on the skin and more avoid skin oils in the cleaning solution. Some did get on my skin after the right glove broke on me, stinging the scratches I had on that hand.

I use a tweezers to flip the coin and going in and out of the acetone.

I could see that happening. Go was your hands with soap and water.
Still a good lesson you posted. A learning experience for all.

Thanks, bpoc.

My hands have suffered worse abuse, like handling wet concrete.

I also don't wear gloves when using acetone, I did get a wire drain trap made of stainless steel I use to dip the coins in and out of the bowl of solution. Works great on circulated coins, for uncs. I would not use the basket strainer as it could scratch the coins, but sure helps keeping my hands out of the acetone. I find most rubber gloves and surgical gloves will dissolve upon contact with the acetone also. Don't want rubber bits getting transferred on to the coin.

Nice video. I have 15 or so of these. I wonder if it will be ok to do them all the same time.

I also have one that appears to be gold plated, I doubt it though. If I try it on that one if gold, it should hold up correct? Otherwise the gold coloring would come off, right?
