I am a fan of certain thematic exonumia and Trade dollars... (geology themes, Nova Scotia stuff, etc...)

An opportunity came up to buy an entire collection (approx. 850 pieces), sight unseen except for these photos, at about $1 per piece, I just could not say no...

I received the parcel in the mail late last week and had fun sifting through all the exonumia, adding several coins to my collection. Imagine my surprise to find the scarcer Nanaimo bathtub and Manitoulin Haweater dollars, as well as some really scare Trade dollars from Inuvik and low mintate gold-plated variations from various parts of Canada and even a Lottery dollar from Edmonton.

If there is anyone here who attends Coin Expo or Nuphilex, and collects Trade dollars or exonumia - you will enjoy picking over my inventory...

Lots like this are what brings out the fun in coin collecting for me...

Wow! I've been puttering along putting together a set representing places I've lived or had a connection to but nothing on this scale!

Wish I could paw through the collection. I've been getting interested in the Canadian Municipal trade coinage and have slowly collected some over the past year.

Oh, wow, I wish I was attending. Nova Scotia medals is one of my main interests. I would love to know if you have anything along those lines. New Brunswick too.

Seems like you picked up an amazing deal. I see North Bay on the top of a 2x2.

By chance did you see any from North Bay with the Dionne Quints dollar from 1984? The quints 50th I think..

They were offered in nickle, gold colour and silver.

Nice. I pick up Trade dollars now and then and got my three silver Halifax's from Gerard at Citadel too, but that was a few years ago at $5 each - I have silver in '76, '79 and '81 and am glad to have them. NS municipal medals are my big passion (one of 'em).

Does this explain your avatar?

I grew up in the town that Trade dollar is from, so I always wondered whether you had ever been there or not.

Yes, I lived in Sherwood Park for 7 years (2001-2008).

I would love to have that opportunity. I am trying to collect coins/banknotes with buildings with a hope to mount an exhibition to showcase to architecture students.

I have found that buildings are very often depicted on municipal Trade dollars.

How will I find you?
