I picked this nickel up just to get a better look at it. I thought that it might be an unattributed Repunched Date or Double Die Obverse, but I think that it is just severe shift doubling.

The motto may be Longacre Doubling, but the date is pretty dramatic!

What do you think?

Saw the title & thought you'd be showing the 69/69 DDO. But yours is much more dramatic. Nice!

That's not Longacre, that's Ludicrous!

Reasonably sure it's MD, though - were it a known die variety, it'd be splashed all over the Internet.

with Machine Doubling on this one, and an excellent example of what it looks like. Very flat and shelf like, no rounding of the doubled areas in design. On ebay I see a lot of the raw coins listed as DDO or DDR are actually just machine doubled and surprised how many people end up paying pretty hefty premiums for a defect that should not have any value to it.

A very good learning piece, anyway to get some close up photos of the like you have but at an angle? Say like 45 degrees? I know it might be hard to shoot through the slab like that - but I think it may show off the shelf look even more dramatically.

Very cool and thanks for sharing this Shield nickel!

Sorry, angle attempts last night, I will try again after work tonight.

None of the images that I took last night were any good. The focal point on the USB microscope is to small to gain a reasonable image through the slab plastic.
