When you move to a new house or state how do you move/transport your physical gold or any PM?

With a six shooter at my hip.  Realistically though, I would call my insurance company, let them know of the move. make sure I'm covered for what I'm carrying. Keep it in a discreet box buried in the vehicle. |

My first thought is to put it with your important papers and photos.
Clothes and furniture are replaceable, but memories are not.
Really, when I travel to a coin show I just throw it into the car.
You may be a more cautious chap so I'll pass you on to the next responder.

I think any serious answer to that question would have to be based on the dollar value, size and weight of what was being moved. Value-wise -- my answer
on how I'd move 50oz of Ag would be totally different from my answer on how I'd move 500oz of Au or Pt. Size/weight-wise -- is this a number of boxes with
a large, heavy total weight or one steel military surplus ammo box with a few pounds in it?
You need to evaluate your degree of risk in this move and the value/size/weight of your PM's and make a prudent decision about what to do based on your
analysis of the situation and values involved.
Namachieli's quip about a firearm wasn't totally out of place, either. If I was moving PM's and a firearm at the same time, the gun would be out of sight and
unloaded but easily accessible and I'd have some ammo in my pocket.
On the insurance idea -- you may have difficulty finding an insuror that will cover PM's in transit (unless being transported by a bonded carrier). You might be
able to find a Lloyd's of London affiliate that would provide coverage, but the cost will be a nightmare.

Back at a shop I worked at in the 1990's when we needed to move gold we did it as discreetly as possible, took two vehicles, in case of a robbery or a break down, the gold (always in coin form in my case) was kept in a metal ammo case locked, and placed in the trunk. Yes everyone in each car was armed as well. I don't think we ever moved more than $250K worth at a time, and then we didn't do it often, once or twice a year maybe. Once to a bank for a customer and a couple of times taking it to the USPS for shipping via registered mail. Packages were already made up and addressed then just put into the ammo cans for transport.

Make sure that under no circumstances that you leave the vehicle unintended when making stops for food or gas. It is amazing how many times coin dealers (that should know better) do this and get the contents of their vehicle stolen in a smash and grab. There are newspaper articles all the time about this type of thing. I've also heard of dealers being followed for hundreds of miles after coin shows by crooks.

The most I've moved is about 20ozs, keeping that in mind: I procured a SDB at my new location and while retaining my old SDB with the gold in it. I then planned a day where I could drive directly from my old bank to my new bank with the gold. Since my moves have been under 300 miles, this was reasonable. If I needed to stop with $30k in gold, I used a restaurant drive-thru, pay at the pump, or quick trip into a restroom with my car locked and the gold concealed within.

Kenkat---That picture you posted is fantastic! It's "scratch+sniff"--right? When I scratched my monitor screen, I could actually smell the donuts! Seriously, though--
it's good to see those guys on duty, guarding a small pile (maybe $500 worth?) of $25 bank boxes of pennies. My faith in our banking system is renewed! Thank
you for that moment of levity -- I needed it. One thing though... shouldn't somebody warn the guards about the chubby kid with the RPG off to the right of the truck?

Two years ago I was travelling to California from New jersey for the purpose of setting up an apartment and moving my family soon out to follow. After a long miserable drive, the DEA pulls me over and took all my money and boxed uncirculated bank coin (from which I was working Wells Fargos along the way) and left me on interstate 80 with no gas money. Oh and wrote me a ticket for driving too closer to the vehicle in front (not true but his excuse for pulling my jersey plates over. They proceded to review my emails and phone coms in days that followed I'm sure. I never got my money back cause I hired a lawyer and he never filed to have my money returned, but rather used it to trade with the prosecutor on some other case I'm sure. If you're gonna get robbed on the way it will likely be by the government.

The last move I made required an Armored Truck, 3 FBI agents, a 5 man SWAT Team, & my 2 Rotties, and that was a 2 mile move.
How ever you do it, take the appropriate measures for the sercurity of your items.
