For those of us who can't have a safe for whatever reason, I was thinking of places where people might hide gold or silver and wanted some suggestions. Some of the ideas I came up with below may be unfeasible or too obvious. I ruled out putting them inside walls because I wanted to focus on places that would be immediately accessible in case of emergencies like fires or disasters. Here's what I have so far:
1) inside a piano
2) inside an old-style monitor or television
3) in picture frames (wouldn't hold much, but maybe some valuable NGC-type, slabbed coins).
4) underneath or within certain pieces of furniture that have slots or cavities of some sort. Example: I have an old desk that has two hidden spaces at the bottom on each side, basically underneath the very bottom desk drawer. I can easily fit 500 ozs. of silver in the two evacuated spaces. If someone were to slide it out to see what's underneath, velcro on the box top containing the silver holds everything in place.
5) flip a couch upside down, make a slit in the bottom lining, slide the silver inside, and sew up the tear.
6) inside the pockets of old clothes that no one would think twice of swiping, which is also the key to hiding anything (i.e. make sure whatever you're hiding the gold/silver in has zero to no value).

some of those might work, some might not
1) if the piano is played, whatever you put inside would change its sound and possibly interfere with the function
2) be sure these are not accidentally recycled or thrown away. There are many stories of people loosing their savings due to spring cleaning their house.
3) the limit would be on what and how much. Having a picture 6 inches thick might be sort of obvious
4) I think this is probably a practical idea
5) be sure you don't interfere with the workings of the couch. It could be like sitting on your coins.
6) Goodwill and the Salvation army probably love this idea. See #2

just random thoughts that I got brainstorming.
you could make a false bottom in your largest garbage and hide it in there.
you could vacuum seal it and hide it in your freezer.
you could take one of your kitchen cabinets and put in a false back and hide it there
you could vacuum seal it and put some in the back part of your toilet.

I have a drop ceiling in my basement. I looked for some clear area and screwed strips of plywood to the bottom of the floor joists and use tupperware tubs to hold my coins. The tiles aren't strong enough to hold more than a few pounds. I can get two tubs between each set of floor joists.

I keep my mint sets lined up by year on my bookshelf. Easy to grab in a hurry but not hidden in any way. I'm not concerned about them being stolen and if they were, they are insured.
Keep in mind that you can easily hide things from yourself if you get too creative. I remember going through my parents bedroom a while back when we had to move everything out to take up the carpeting. We found more than $1000 dollars in cash that my mother had been stashing away in various places. She had no idea she had that much money stashed and most of it she didn't remember hiding. (No, she doesn't have any form of dementia) I dread going through their house once they pass.

Start with a Google search of--- Hiding valuables in plain sight ... in your home ... in your house ... in your apartment ... and go from there.
You should find more ideas than you'll be able to use.

Those are some interesting hididng places. The only reason I keep my stuff in safe deposit is the fear of fire, more than theft.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...

I was going to suggest a light socket for a single gold ounce.
Picture frames: I wouldn't do it. Everyone who has seen a Hollywood movie knows that safes hide behind paintings. One move of the picture could give it away.
I'm also in the "plainsight" camp. If it's right under your nose and you can't see it, that's a good hiding spot. I won't divulge my hiding spots. There are plenty of ways to hide stuff without giving criminals a fighting chance.

Try behind your baseboard trim. Remove a piece about 3-4 feet, cut the drywall out from behind it (but no higher than the top of the baseboard.) Now you can stack your Pm's on your wall plate, attach baseboard with hidden magnets. This works best w/ tall baseboard trim @ 4 1/2" or taller.

How about you cold air return, it's only two screws to take out and then just place them in the vent.

shoes shelf right at the entrance door
kitchen right below the washer
etc etc etc
hide it in the place thieves would not search in because it is dumb to hide valuable in there

And just in case you didn't get yup's last post, here's another equally insightful one! Oh, if only the rest of us were so capable.
Yes, imagine the lucky criminal who alights on this thread. "Finally, I know exactly where to look on my next break-in! Oh, joy!" His faith in a higher power is renewed. Full of purpose, he strides towards his unlucky victim's house.
Beating down the door with his trusty crowbar, he knows exactly where to look, pulling out his painstakingly copied list. "First I'll look inside the piano, then inside the monitor, then inside the picture frames..."
He is despondent. Not even halfway through his list - not even counting all the places that are dumb to hide valuables in. His hands are wet from digging through the toilet, they're covered with dust from trying to reach under the dishwasher, and already once he's hit his head while feeling around for loose ceiling panels. A sudden crunching of in the driveway puts him onto high alert - he drops the bushel of old, tatty clothes he was digging through, kicks over the old TV that failed to relinquish anything shiny, and runs off.
Then there's the attack of the personal, which I dub the Yup Scenario.
After three days, his mark is set. Using Google, an IP tracking tool, and a spool of factory cotton, the clever thief has finally found exactly where the innocent and unwary CCF poster known only as "yup7676" lives. He knows exactly when to strike.
Late in the morning, his plan falls into action. He's read that foolish thread about where to hide your valuables. Oh, if only they knew! If only they knew how vulnerable they all are! He realizes that yup is too cool to reveal where his treasures are stashed, so instead of wasting time hunting for them, he smashes a few windows for the fun of it and runs off with someone's wallet, along with a slightly used computer and all the cutlery. Another daring sneak attack pulled off with aplomb.
There are so many ridiculous suggestions in this thread, I can't imagine any thief following them all. So... just don't post the ones you actually use? It's not like there's a limit to esoteric hiding spots, so the process of elimination won't work either.

Yup---You noted your disapproval/objection/suggestion to discontinue the thread/whatever it is earlier. The fact that the thread continues indicates that your thought
has been noted but other people feel it's nonetheless worth continuing.
You're probably right that some bad dogs may be monitoring the thread and that they may get ideas about where to look from the thread, but... If they're any good at
what they do and smart enough to be looking here, they probably already know more than everything they'll see here.
The suggestions and resources being offered in response to the OP question are intended to provide information to CCF'ers who don't already have that info. It's the
concept of providing information and help to others, which is what forums are for. You yourself have previously pointed out that concept and function.
So... everybody has seen you post your thought about this thread twice now. The thread hasn't been shut down because of inappropriate content and it's continuing
even in light of your input, so I think your thought has been made clear and doesn't need to repeated any more.
