I am planning some upgrades in my 7070 and don't necessarily need the lower graded coins I started with, but will probably keep some since I've had them awhile. Just curious what you all do with the extras you have. Sell them to keep the coin budget going? Pass them on to kids etc? Keep them?

Most of the time I trade them.

I don't have a 7070, but I do have several other collections. When I upgrade coins from them, I always say I will sell the ones I traded out to make up for the ones I bought to put in, but I never do. They just go into a new set, or into my general US coin set (for coins I don't have in Danscos).

I usually trade them out. I have some friends locally and some I have met on the internet that I trade out a lot of common world coins with. I sometimes keep extras of my more expensive coins. I know, if I sold the more expensive ones then that would free up more funds, right? But part of me thinks since I already have it, it will probably go up in the future so I might as well hold onto it.

I generally trade or sell them. I try not to get too many coins in my collection.

I'll never trade, sell or give away my "children". Once I acquire a coin, it's gonna stay with me till my kids find the key to the safe. Hopefully that is when I'm a stiff. I've even thought of taking a Morgan set with me. Although truth be told, I'm quite conflicted about that. Maybe one coin in one hand and a loupe in the other.

It all depends on the coin for me. Most of them Ill sell/trade to put towards something else I need or want but some I will keep if I really like them both.

I sell mine; if selling wasn't such a pain, I'd do it more often but I find it annoying. That's why I prefer not to buy a coin unless it is the exact grade/appearance as I want. Of course it takes me more time to complete a set, but I guess that's what makes the hobby fun to begin with!

I now only buy the grade that I want and will be happy with so upgrading won't be a problem. It's just not that easy selling the lower grade coins for a reasonable price where I am.

When I upgrade MY set the lower grade goes to my kids albums and then the kids lower grade goes to the grandkids albums and then those go back into circulation, maybe.

I do one of three things depending on the coin...

1. Give them away to a young collector. Helps the hobby...
2. Trade them
3. Sell them

the last two really depend on the coin. Number 1 comes up most often. There isn't anything better than seeing how a youngster's eyes light up when you give them a coin they don't have...

The only "upgrades" I have done have been Walking Liberty halves. With the exception of the 1938 d the worn coins of my youth have gone to my silver stack.

This sounds like a great idea. Now to decide on the coin

I sell them on ebay. My problem is that I can't let go of some duplicates, triplicates.. Coin collecting becomes an addiction
