this one is different than what I'm finding out about the wide and narrow dates and the hoof for 44's,
is this a less common variety ?

One hundred and one Mint reported 1944 Reverse Dies used.... most/all dies have the last two digits of the die manually entered, so lots of different date configurations are found. This is not the widest date that you can find, but it would be considered a wide date.

This is a wide date... I hoof through (known in the '46) there is a die clash that starts at the hoof goes on through the 6 and can extend sometimes even below the 4
