I know full well the process of fabricating a coin . I'm not a newbie to errors . Obviously you think that the mint workers are perfect and never make a mistake . Do you actually think that if a run of two reverse errors was made the mint would publically disclose it . No they would simply scrap the run and go on with the business of making coins .

I think a photograph of the hammer and anvil dies (and their set-up), used in Ottawa for PL strikes (up to 2010), would help this debate immensely... they are nothing alike.

There is also the possibility that this didn't come out of Ottawa as "normal" circulation strikes can also have a PL appearance . US gading services are very loose when the term PL is used .

When I mentioned "run" - I meant a production run of many coins , could be any number depending when the mistake was noticed .

Well, nickelsguy saw the coin in hand... he can certainly answer the PL versus business strike question, and thus provenance.

Could a PL not come out of winnepeg circulation strikes . Many of the 99/00 quarters had pl surfaces . Some of the other denomintions sure look pl also .

Yes, in 2000 PLs were also produced in Winnipeg. But did the 5c had a W mint mark as well? (I don't have my catalog with me right now, much less a 2000 5c PL to check)

I politely messaged the seller about the coin as a prospective buyer hours ago but no reply yet.
Would you sell this coin on ebay? or in a private coin auction. Fees alone would make the difference to me.

I suspect this is no different than Proof Positive Coins ebay store. For a minimal fee, you get a web presence and online advertising. Anytime Proof Positive or Coin Cabinet get a nice coin I want, I usually just send them a message through their ebay listing, tell them to "bring this coin to the next show"...

This seller will most likely have the coin showcased at Nuphilex, and possibly in his auctions (this dealer is also owner of Lower Canada Auctions)...

This thread is enough to prove my point - that ebay listing is getting lots of attention...

I can neither speak to this series (5-cent), nor the 25-cent series you refer to, they are beyond my collecting speciality - but your questions in terms of the 1-cent coins, not a chance... the Ottawa strikes are just so much different.
