Hard to tell from the picture but I can say that the post on the mint mark broke off which is why it is filled in. However that doesn't mean it isn't a m/m. Better pictures are needed for me to tell.

Looks like slight Machine Doubling. It matches the curve of the mint mark. If we saw more of the date digits we might see more of this in the direction that the devices being pushed.

Thanks for the extra image. It is always good to show the date and mint mark in one image. It sometimes answers questions that a too close shot may not show. On you extra image it shows the weakness in the bottom digits of 74. It may have taken a hit as others have suggested. On this image at the top 10:00 on the date, the same areas don't seem to be affected like the mint mark. Thus I change my answer to coin damage. Copper is pretty soft and doesn't hold up well to a hit in circulation.
Side point: It is a large date 1974-S
