These seem way too crisp and clean for coins of their era. They are from a guy I was doing some dealings with and he wants me to help him sell them. I told him I doubt they are real, but I don't know. This video is the best I could do without taking the coins out and everything.
Sorry I didn't focus well, but let me know if there are any red flags. If there aren't, I'll have a more knowledgable friend of mine take a closer look sometime.
While I have no experience in saying yes or no to these coins I really would like to see them as photographs if possible. Out of the bags they are in. I think if anyone is going to be able to help they will need at least that much.
I'm super curious to see them though and what everyone else here has to say about them!
what are the dates and denominations on these coins... that 1796 looks super nice and I would be interest in knowing how much he wants for it if they are real.... thanks PEACE...
Do you have a caliper and scale? Measure them and weigh them, see if they are within spec, also try a super powerful magnet and see if they are made of an alloy.
It's tough to make a call from glimpses of coins in ziploc bags. It would be much easier to make that call from photographs. The 1796 Bust Dollar must be assumed fake until proven different and the same goes for the Trade dollar. The 1834 Half sure looks like a fake from the surface appearance and the huge stars. Given this, I would assume they are all fake until proven genuine by comparison to known authentic coins and passing the weight test and even the tissue test.
A quick and easy test is the ring test. Silver will sound different from cast counterfeits.
Agreed. One of my pet-peeves is coins shown via video. To try & determine authenticity, I generally focus on one detail of the piece, only to have it moved. Stills, please.
Its tough to call, but that 1796 does not look real to me. The 1834 has the appearance of being fake. The Trade dollar looks real enough but the 1869, I'm assuming thats a Seated Liberty dollar, doesn't look right to me. The date on the Barber doesn't look right to me.
We will need better pictures of the coins overall to really make a determination. Unless Steve Caruso can chime in with his knowledge of fakes and determine if he has seen these before.
Just ran through the pictures. It is difficult to tell you spacific coins are fake because you didn't label each picture with what they were, and I don't know what coins you have. But here are a few observations
