I have a large cent here that has a hairline crack on both sides of the coin. The front crosses from the rim to cut off her head. The back side extends from the rim through the center area. At first I though it was complete junk because the lack of detail. But now it appears that it was actually an error during production. The reason I come to the conclusion is one edge appears is thinner for about a half inch gradually getting larger on the other side of the rim. In addition, The wear is obviously heavier on one part of the back of the coin and shadowed on other parts. I have pics I will post below I am still trying to figure out how to use digital camera with that small of an item. The examples I have are obtained using my flatbed scanner.
Can't say anything about the "cracks" as the pictures aren't good enough for me to determine if anything to there. But the coin does appear to have had a flawed planchet when struck.
