So I finally searched through my first roll of John Adams dollars and found 7 that have what seems to be off center edge lettering? Is this an error or variety or neither? I've also found two in the same roll that seem to have additional faint lettering on the edge ... one seems to have an N between the 2007 and P, the other seems to have a 4 between 2007 P and E Plur...

Any thoughts on these would be much appreciated. I will try to post pictures later. Thanks everyone...

No, sorry, I don't. I just tried taking some but they're basically coming out as just fuzzy blobs of uselessness. I guess I need to read some photo tips when dealing with coins. I'll get them up as soon as I can.

I have been doing some research on these Adam's Errors. I found some that appear off center, and this seems to be common. So look for dramatic off center coins.

I mean the ones that have the coin's features off the edge and part of the planchet is blank.

As far as the misplaced errors are concerned-some coin enthusiast think this happened when the coin hit against each other in the back. If a coin hits another coin hard enough it can put a letter on the "hit" coin where it shouldn't be.

The way to tell if this happened is to exam the letter or number in question, and see if it is a "mirror" if image of a letter or number. Meaning, it should look backwards and very faint.

I hope you do find a mint error, but what you described doesn't seem to be. I would like to see the pics when you figure out your camera.

Important thing to note...

Almost all the time, if you search through a very small sampling (less than 100 pieces) and find the same anomaly repeated more than once, you likely have something common that will be found many times over and will have no eventual premium value. There are exceptions, but this is the general rule.

DoubleDie and coppercoins - thanks for the info. I have been really busy and haven't had time to mess with my camera but once I do I'll get the pictures on here. I hope to have them up by this weekend. Thanks again...

I spent a couple minutes playing with my camera and this is the best I can do. Somebody should invent a coin only camera b/c this isn't easy. I know it isn't perfect but I think it'll illustrate my point. See how the lettering is very close to the rim? Is that normal? Has anybody else found some like this? The other lettering on the edge of this coin is centered, TRUST is closest to the rim. I have 6 others just like this, different lettering is off center on each one. Let me know what you think guys ... thanks for reading!
