Image: penny.jpg69.81 KB Hello, this is my first time... first day... starting to collect. I found this today just in some random pocket change, and I was wondering what this would be defined as. If you notice the "9" has another "9" pressed underneath it. I was wondering if this is a good find and if it has any value. I'm aware it's not a full blown double die, as the entire date, letter, nor image are doubled. Let me know what you think.

If you are referring to something underneath the digit, the picture is not good enough to tell one way or the other. If you are referring to the mark below the 9 even with the mint mark, it is impossible for it to be a 9 from the date. From the pic, I cannot tell what it is and a better pic would be needed to determine that.
BTW, welcome to the forum!

Whatever it might look like, it's probably not. No such animal has been found in 1979 cents, and millions have been searched. If it were something in the die and were that dramatic, it would have been repeated a number of times, found by someone over the past 28 years, and published in one of the two dozen Lincoln Cent publications I have here. You probably have a stray mark on the coin.

I'm sorry about the image quality. How would you suggest taking a better picture. The 9 below the 9 in 1979 is the only thing unique about the coin. You can see it in the image. I guess the mint is just a blob, too. Would it just be a stray mark?

This coin is actually starting to baffle me. After looking at it for a long time in many different lights and magnifications, I've decided it was a mark of circumstance. Probable just a slight circular shape on the coin close enough to the edge of where the coin is press that it just looks like a second nine.

Why don't you like ME that much Coppercoins?
