I am not familiar with the American grading system and would appreciate help with grading the following coin. Using the UK grading I would say it was F+/VF

IMO US grading would award it an XF.

I tried to copy your little yellow guy screaming with delight but couldn't do it so my screams of delight are muted!
I think I will enjoy the coin and let the grand kids inherit it.

agreed. looks XF45. she's a little dull which might indicate a cleaning but this is a nice coin

Just make sure you leave a note of it's value so they treat it was respect and not just try to pass it off in the local coinstar equivalent.

You have a good point. It would probably be best to sell it now and give them the money. The trouble is I am based in the UK and not USA and placing it on ebay may be risky.

The details are easy XF but I worry that the surfaces aren't original. As regards liquidation, in your shoes I'd consider contracting with a US auction house such as Heritage or Teletrade; they'd also be able to get your coin into a TPG slab which would be imperative for an issue of such value.

Nice coin, but it would likely get a details grade.

Read all the current replies ... adding my thoughts:
The coin likely has a USA (Sheldon) technical grade of XF45 ... the wear on the obverse portrait hair directly above the eyes is indicative of this grade.
Reasonably well struck ... as evidenced by 11 of the 13 obverse stars exhibiting some level of 6 pedal detail.
That said ... might be the photographs ... but I am concerned this coin has been cleaned at sometime in the past ... the surfaces just do not look original in the photos.
But .. Joy ... this coin is the key date in the series and always commands serious $$ whenever available on the market.
It's likely a $1000 coin even with questionable surfaces ... so good for you!
