I picked this up today, because it looked interesting.
And it is on page 95 of my 2014 RedBook.

This is a Hard Times token, I think?

Nice buy. Definitely has more character than your average Half Cent.

well, kind of. Hard Times tokens were made to resemble large cents. Since, there were no Half Cents made in 1837, these were privately issued for businesses to use. They were made during the same time, but it depends on what definition you use. The Red Book doesn't have these in the Hard Times token section

Glad you posted that. I never knew there were no Half Cents minted in 1837 but some where minted by private organizations. Yours is in fantastic condition considering the age. Really nice coin for a collection.
