Hard to believe that this is MS64 but not sure what it really is. It looks nice enough to me that I could be happy to own it but don't want to overpay on what would likely be the most expensive coin I buy in my life. What realistic grade would you give? http://www.ebay.com/itm/19090940645....m1423.l2649

Don't ever consider the grade on an asyn coin to be accurate. Those are small, low resolution scans, but it looks like wear to me and the coin may have been dipped at some point. I can't speak on whether it's authentic or not. I wouldn't touch it being that I can't see it in hand first. It will be interesting to hear other viewpoints though.

Looks EF-45 to me...

MS64... EF45, slight chance it is cleaned. I'd pay an EF40 price for it.

Thanks - there are a couple of hours left in the auction - I will see if it goes much above the $1000 mark.

There was 5% GST to be added to the sale but free shipping. I decided $1200 plus GST was as high as I would go. It went for $1350 + tax. Not sorry I did not bid more. There will be other chances.

EF40.
Personally, I would never buy a raw 1945, 1947 or 1948 dollar, as there are reportedly huge numbers of counterfeits of those key dates.
For 1948, plenty of certifieds out there.

Someone paid $1,350.00 for an overpriced 1948 dollar, which might not even be real, not only that but only grades about EF, not certified, ..WOW.. some people have lots of money to throw around..

His auctions are amazing in terms of the good prices he gets on the few key dates items, obvious overgrades but people still bids

asyn pics are always hard to read but I've got lots of real MS gems from them that had these types of pics..it takes just as much time to make a good pic as a bad one so I'm wondering why they dont get a better imaging system..Looks AU to me

I've had two 1948 dollars brought to me at the store in the past 2 months. Both pretty good copies but they just don't look right and the weight at 20 grams gives it away.
