Here is my favorite Proof like set. I have always wondered, since the coins are slightly toned which I think makes them irresistible eye candy, what grade they would receive. I have seen proof like coins on ebay with grades of PL65 and up and wonder if they could be applied to these.

By the way, is there a faster method of optimizing photos? It took me about 25 minutes to finish this post haha! I LOVE MY COINS!

Impossible to grade PL strikes, without the coins in hand...

So that means that the only way to buy these sets off of ebay is to offer 'only rock bottom bids'.. and then wait and see.

What am I looking for? How is grading a prooflike coin unlike grading a non-prooflike?

Prooflike coins basically start at an assumption that they will be generally PL-64 or better - they are struck quite well, with mirrored fields. You need a pretty good eye to grade those strikes and know the difference between a PL-65 and a PL-67...

That is something that more or less comes with experience... try sniffing around the PCGS registry sets and look at those coins in the Prooflike registry sets.

I collect mostly Proof Like and SPP-Ottawa is correct in saying that to grade a proof like coin that in hand is the only way even at that it is very difficult to do.
