Hello all, I'm relatively new to the whole collecting scene. I've not long found myself working in the banking industry in England and have, in a fairly short space of time acquired a fair few coins. At the moment I have no real aim to my collecting other than collecting! I do however need some assistance on what I think is a coin, I'm not too sure if it is as I cannot find any examples of it at all. Any help would be appreciated. If I can work this right I'll try and upload some pics. Hope that's ok. Jethro *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I have moved your post into the section for identification to get slightly different readers.

Thanks for that. Was slightly unsure if posting pics there was the best place! Cheers.

The photos aren't terribly clear I'm afraid. But from the symbol on the reverse I don't think this is a coin, but a jeton. In other words, a counter or gaming piece. Possibly similar to this one with Mercury on the obverse: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefa...rd/id/436116But really we'd need better photos to tell, or if you can read the legends?

I appreciate the help guys, I'll try and post some more pics at a higher res when I can. On the "orb" side the legend possibly reads "MKP.DEUS", there is more but I cannot read it. For the "bust" side it's something like "RIC:?V?LELAS.." these may not be correct but hopefully may be of use. Jethro.

Definitely a Nuremberg orb jeton of Wolf Laufer (WOLF LAVFER in the first pic legend). Not a rose on the other side though. Could it be a winged lion of St Mark?

to the community. Nice find, these Jetons are interesting pieces. While not very valuable they nice pieces to collect. BTW, I like your user name. Jethro Tull was one of my favorites bands back in the 60's.

Thanks for the help folks. Very much appreciated. It's not really the value I'm worried about, for me it's the history that is interesting. When I manage to scan at a higher res I will post some more. The picture looks like a person looking to the left with feather in their hat, it is quite worn though so I may be wrong.
Cheers for the "like" of the name. I was not around to see them in the 60's but do have most of the albums now!
Jethro.

Using the links provided by you guys and then other reading there are 3 gents named wolf that have produced these jetons. Any idea how I would find the approx age of the one I have? Jethro
