In late Dec, my cousin bought a house near Yreka. He dug up seven or eight army ammo cans of coins, mostly silver, which I sold for him. I have left about eight or ten rolls of steel cents, mostly fused together with rust, as two of the cans leaked. What would you do with these? I'm tempted to break them into single coins, toss them into the surf at a popular beach where some kid may find them... might start him in coin collecting. Failing that, maybe spend them, and give someone a thrill? Also about five rolls of common wheaties with the same problem - pretty rusty, although they didn't fuse together like the steel cents.

Suggestions welcomed.

The possibilities are limitless...

I'd circulate a few, bury a few (maybe leave a little treasure map lying somewhere conspicuous), and leave a few laying around (on handrails and such).

I also like to buy cheap unused old penny stamps, lick them, and stick them onto walls... don't tell anyone :I

Personally, I would break them up because the rust might only be on the rim on the coins in the middle. The payoff is a possible copper war penny, sold for $72k.

Second choice would be to throw them up on ebay for a starting bid of 1 cent and no reserve and see what happens. From what I can see, a roll of anything will sell.

Or there could be a 1944 steel. You never know.

I agree, break them up, and let us know what you find.

Good idea with leaving them about.
