I bid on a banknote and was outbid. Evidently, the high bidder backed out or something and the seller offered me a "second chance" offer. I contacted the seller and offered to purchase the note via ebay if he paid the $6 shipping. He agreed and then the link to the second chance offer disappeared and he stopped replying to my emails. A day or two later, the exact banknote appeared in another seller's items. I'm sure that the sellers are one and the same as the communication with both sellers was the same. I've had a couple of experiences where a seller had multiple accounts. So, my question is why would a seller have multiple accounts?

I don't accept second chance offers. Maybe the seller is legit; maybe not. But if he's bidding or has someone else bidding on his item, then I'll let him win and pay the FVF. That should slow that nonsense down. If it was legit then he can offer the next lower bidder the second chance offer.

I cant really think of a good reason for multiple selling accounts. Having two accounts though isn't that uncommon to have one to sell and one to buy

It's possible that one buying account is for personal use and one for a small business.

I have 2 ebay accounts and as stated somewhere above I use one for buying and one for selling. What Fuzzy317 said is true about using different names so spouses don't know. I have a few return buyers who have different ebay names and also use different mailing addresses so their partners wont know about the sales. Just my thoughts edgman

I recently read a book about ebay and it said that you ALWAYS should have at least TWO ebay accounts; and preferably more. They said one should be strictly for buying, the others for selling different types of items (like clothes, coins, or perfumes). On that note, always check a seller's feedback and recent sales well ahead of the time you place bids on their items.

Some sellers have more than one major selling category and for bookkeeping purposes they want to keep them separate hence more than one seller account.

That's one. Some numismatic sellers have multiple locations and segregate them for the same reason; the "greatestateroadshow" people do that. There are sellers who have accounts for different tiers of coins, as well - cheap raw stuff and slabbed, more expensive, etc.

I have had one person buying from me under one ID, and saw him selling under another ID. So there is another purpose, flipping items without your customers seeing what you paid for it.
