So I am up at near crack of dawn dealing with Silverhawk jr. and I click on MSNB lead page on way to email and head line reads.....

First gov shutdown in 17 years after congress fails to reach and agreement etc....

Then I click on my APMEX phone app and see silver taking early dive below 21 and the rest as are the other pmz in full decline....

Is this just intial shock drop as I would think gov shutdown would swing pmz a full 180 degrees in time, we will see any thoughts?

Big show this weekend. I hope we can get another $1-2 drop out of silver by then. Looking to pick up some rolls of Walking Liberty halves and with melt moving toward $7 a coin that will be better then last year at $12 a coin.

Anything that effects our everyday life and spot price becomes relevant in my mind regardless of politics and religious opinions people share or are opposed on. But yes disgust is a good enough word....

One must wonders if all the smoke and mirrors the Fed gov has been creating, have become cracked as the smoke evaporates?

I have never worked for the gov but for good people like Oih82w8 who do, this effects them rather drastically obviously and I too hope for the best and that they can put their own BS to the side and do the right thing to get things running again....

OIH---Sincere condolences on being furloughed. Here's hoping it's over quickly and not repeated. I'm a retired state employee and we took a hit like that around
20 years ago. Luckily, it passed and was over pretty quickly and before anybody got hurt too bad.

On the market responding to the shutdown with PM prices dropping... I have to admit I don't get it. Evidently the marketeers must figure we're better off with the
present administration shut down than open for business(?)...

We are not out of the woods yet, a small pool of money was "discovered" for 7 to 10 days worth of production.

I wonder how the PM's reacted when this happened 17 years ago. Anyway of finding out? History tends to repeat itself...

Fat Freddy can you blame them?

PMs did nothing in 1995 either. Theyd been flat for a while though but had a downturn during the shutdown at the end of the year.

Why would the gubmint shutdown drive PM's up? Wait till the debt ceiling deadline. Prices even lower?
Keep in mind as prices drop, demand greater, higher premium spread.

BB--- No blame coming from me on that one. I was just being good, minding my mouth and keeping it "non-political." It's very difficult for me to do that right now!

For some reason the anticipated delivery date on the reverse buffalo I ordered on Set 4th has been pushed back to Nov 25th. It was suppose to ship Sept 27th, then it got pushed to Sept 30th, then Oct 15th, and now Nov 25th. Maybe I should cancel and buy a PR70 online? I guess I should look at my bank account to see if the US Mint charged me for the coin yet? What happens to the coins if a buyer cancels? Do they have buyers lined up on a wait list or something?

2013 AM BUFFALO GOLD REVERSE PROOF 1 OZ 1 $1,740.00 $1,740.00 1 unit backordered. Expected to ship on 11/25/2013.

The smart short term money is still in the stock market. When Wall St loses its voom our metals will recover. I thought the equity markets would be in the toilet today but look what happened. Tomorrow it could be just the opposite, who knows. Long term we're fine, for now just buy on the dips.

That date will probably move up again when this ends.

The mint isn't supposed to charge until your item ships.

If you can afford a 70 Id get one, if you can afford both this would actually be one of the few things Id say to keep your order if you can. Theres a decent chance the itll play out like the 2009 UHR which even raw sells above 2300. If nothing else theres a decent chance you could sell it and recover some of the 70 cost.

Either way you have until it ships to decide so you could leave it in tact and watch the pricing if you wanted to sell or think about it for a little bit.

Canceled orders are supposed to be melted, if all other orders are filled. If they are minting in batches theyll just give yours to the next person and mint less in the final batch. If you cancel when its already made for something like this I wouldnt be shocked if some bulk buyers get a chance to buy some, but at least some are destroyed as the ASE sets mintages have been revised down the last two years from cancellations.
