I recently bought a few rolls of 1963-D cents and I have found a handful of the coins pictured below. Most are MS-60 or better, so the lighting is a tough setup at times.

Nah, these show the classic humpy style hills, not the flat or cut off numbers. I'll see if I can add a better pic tomorrow

Would you be able to include pics of LIBERTY, TRUST, and Lincoln's eyelid please? It'll help in ID'ing it. Thanks!

Machine doubling. I bet if he looked at the rolls he has, he could find normal examples from the same die pair. The devices are not enlarged, but reduce in the areas questioned.

I know it is not from this die, but note how the overall size of the mint mark is enlarged in the area from a different hubbing location?
Even on a class 6 doubled die, the devices on the date can be enlarged.

I'm not seeing the enlarged devices, reduced devices. The "9" is flat/shelf like on the OP's coin.

I'll have to see if I can get the lighting right, because these don't appear to have any of the "top" level missing. They appear to me, anyway that the thickness looks generally the same around the width of the numbers.

Oh, I understand about the "3" issue on that die, but these stick out like a sore thumb when I look at them under the 'scope.

I will revisit. I posted those dirt-early in the morning before I zonked out for the night. Its been a long week already, but a busy and enjoyable one.

Check out 1DO-002. I can't do overlays, so I can't tell if the tilt of the mint mark is correct or not. The placement looks close.

The location for the two look almost exact, but the doubling on both are different.

But the OP's coin may not have the Bar under the "L" in LIBERTY? The older information I have is showing the same doubling as 002, but the coin was a circulated example and had damage to the "3" top loop. The Bar under the "L" would be nice to see if it has that or not.

I dug out my 1963D-1DO-002 to take images of to show the difference between Machine Doubling and hub doubling for this die. On a machine doubled example the area in question is flat, shelf like. On the 002 the area in question is rounded. I tried to get the best images I could to show this. Also this die has a bar under the "L" on LIBERTY.

It is hard to get it to show, but through the scope you can see that it is rounded and not flat.

The coin is MD except for the "3" which looks like a die gouge or chip.

Coop, thanks for the images. Although I have learned a lot, I still get tripped up on some.

I would still like to see more images of the Op's coin up close. It may be rounded and the images may not show it. It is a hard call without the coin in hand.

Coop:
Once I get home I will make it a point to get some other angle pictures for this thread. Last night the Laptop was unavailable since the son needed to use it for taking his college course tests. I looked at the coins under the scope at angles and they make me scratch my head. Sure the Coppercoins example above looks very close. I will take some pics of the one that shows the issue at hand. That should be done before dinner, east coast time.
