When you look at it under a scope and turn it at different angles, you can see the area in question if rounded. If it is flat shelf like then it is Machine Doubling. But if it is rounded it is a DDO. Was there a bar under the "L" on LIBERTY? On the image 3 I posted, I showed what the bar would look like.

OK, as best I could, I tried to take pics of 4 coins that were still out of the roll on the scope. Here it goes....

Well that is the correct die number then. That is the doubling on the "L". But there maybe some Machine Doubling on the date. The 1963 seem to have a directional push at 8:00 on these devices. I found only one through the years. Some of the other DDO for that year I have more of, but the 002, just one.

Man, that makes me feel better, but I do see what you are talking about coop. I completely missed it until you "spelled it out". I am getting better, but I am still looking over things I shouldn't be missing.

Collector-corner: Great finds and pretty to boot! Congrats!

The last 2 date pics aren't the best, I tried holding the coin up at an angle and reaching over and snapping a pic on the laptop. I obviously moved knocking out the chance to take the pic intended.

I honestly don't have a clue how many of these I have. I'll write down the 8 o'clock ref and when I find time I will revisit.

Jay: I bought some rolls off ebay, to fill out our penny binders and this was one of the years we needed. I bought like 5 rolls and if I remember correctly just 2 rolls produced coins like this. Taking a wild guess I would say we have between 8 and 15 of these. I paid like 2.75 a roll, so if even one is a DDO, then I am a head of the game. My son LOVES varieties, and will more than likely man the varieties table at the Baltimore show in the spring - and potentially any other show that we may attend.

The reference on the 8:00 may change from coin to coin. Machine Doubling is not an exact science. Here is a a few examples from two rolls I found. The doubling was different from coin to coin.
