Hi, I saw this today when I looking for an 1912s cent.

It was an 1937 nickel 3 legger. http://cgi.ebay.com/1937-D-3-legged...le_W0QQitemZ260126552221QQihZ016QQcategoryZ254QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I was thinking about buying it since I thought it went way to cheap. I passed on it since I could not tell if fake or an real. Most of nickels I seen sell for 800 to 2000 on ebay in past. I was afraid to bid on it and let it go . Since I heard about peaple grinding the leg off. I dont know how they retone the color of nickel once they grind it off. For what I seen if you grind off stuff on coins. It leaves an bright shiny spot since metal is new .
If was worth it I would have bought since I thought price was good at just over 500.

It looks like a fake. The entire leg is missing instead of only partial

Hi, Thanks I stoped my self from biding since I could not tell from photo and it just did not look right and price seemed to cheap when found it at 450 this afternoon. I see what your saying about the intire leg and the partial leg. Reals ones has the partial leg on them for what I have seen. I guess they retoned the coin to cover the grind marks . I wondor how they did that ? Most the time the grind mark are brighter than coin since its fresh metal .

I feel bad for the high bidder since he stuck with an very expensive nickel. I am glad I did not bid on it. They even have an low feedback rating with no negatives so far.
Thanks Dale

I'm not sure how they retoned it either. They dirtied it up a bit to cover the polished area I guess. Glad you asked for advice before bidding on it.

Hi, Thanks I did some checking the high bider of that auction. He had an rating of 7000 on feedback . I did findout he was coin dealer who owned an shop. I am surprised that coin dealer did not see what he bought. I guess he thinking about making money at time and thought he could resell for huge profit since it was such an low price. It fooled an coin dealer. I was amazed it fooled that dealer. Sometimes you think about making an profit or was it greed?

You correct about asking if dont know its beter to ask advice before I buy something. My last big ticket coin I bought was an 1972 double die cent in an pcgs slab. I ran an check at there website to check it before I bought it on ebay. I also checked coppercoins.com for die stuff. Its amazing how many 1972 double dies there are in 1972. I can see where can get burned big time buying an overpriced cheap one for lots money. ebay is full of overpriced coins at times.

Thanks dale
