Very hard to get the pics perfect so far. More detail with the microscope,..but it's hard to block the light reflection on the plastic flip. These pics don't show much coin to coin contact but I've still got a lot of playing around to do to get rid of the reflections. Nice re-cut "S" in CENTS, and lots of die polishing too.. .. . . and here's another two.. I'll have to raise the camera base a bit to try and include the whole coin.. ...and the "S" in CENTS in this large date is also re-cut.. . . .

DEVLEC is there a way to turn the light off the microscope and then use "light boxes" (lights with either a paper shade or some other type of cover that softens the light) to illuminate the light w/o causing reflection from the plastic flip?

Thanks...I do appreciate the feedback.
The digital microscope offers better depth of field when compared to using the macro lens on the camera.
I can tilt the coin more with the microscope and move some of the light away and still keep more of the coin in focus.
I can also shut the little LED's off and maybe try a different approach to getting enough light on the coin. The plastic is the problem but I'll work on it.

I love my digital microscope.. but my only complaint with it is the bright led lights make it hard to get good pictures.. mainly because the coins reflect it so much, and there is no way to turn them off.. at least on mine..

I'm very interested in coin photography.. I'd like to start making a nice cataloge of my coins which will also include links to pictures, however I am not sure if I want to get a digital microscope or a DSLR or a simple digital point and shoot... just still on the fence...

How many Megapixels is your camera? I keep seeing these for sale but they look too cheaply made to be worth my investment. 10+ would be okay; anything less is outdated.
Also, can't you duct tape the LED light?

My microscope camera is a 2 mega-pixel unit. Many pixel choices in it, so I went with ~1000 x 800 which is close to what this forum wants. A bit of cropping in Picasa and all will be good. I can shut the LED's off and then add another light source at the side to help eliminate the plastic reflections. Yes ..2 light sources would be even better and I'm working on better pics ,..again... Thanks for the helpful link...to better pics..
