Here is a 1917 that I am sending into pcgs.

I just received these awesome images from Bob Campbell AKA robec.

Now that's a guy with an idea how to use the business end of a camera.

Only the rim tells me this isn't a Proof strike. The coin is hammered. Two minor marks in the obverse fields - directly east of the nose and south of BE - only visible at the right angle, and a planchet flaw on the rim southeast of the 7. I'd like to see the reverse in that resolution.

Heck, I'm going to say it. This is (to my aesthetic) the nicest Lincoln I've ever seen and if one ever deserved an honest 68, this is it.

That is one jaw dropping, beautiful coin. Love the wood grain effect on the reverse! Can't wait to hear how it comes out.

If I had this one under my own lens it would have to wait for a while depending on how long it took me to control the nervous giggling.

The matte appearance of this coin is one of my favorite things about. Especially due to the myth of the 1917 proof. To bad about those rims.

Here is a link to Bob's website. Lots of cool pics and coins.

Here are a couple of large shots of the reverse.

Ouch. That scratch down at 5:00 reverse is going to hurt things - I didn't notice it in the one smaller image where it appeared. Looks for all the world like a staple scratch, and I'm beginning to understand why some were thinking Details over at CU. That approaches the level of "tragedy."

Think of it as a beauty mark. A perfect visage needs one tiny imperfection to make the difference between bland and exquisite.
