My wife thinks I spend too much time with my coins and the hobby. I would guess that I spend about 2 hours a day on the internet, reading books / magazines, sorting / looking at coins and the like everyday, 7 days a week. I guess that could be called an addiction. I always tell her I could be smoking, drinking or chasing other woman instead!!! Anyway, how much time do you spend in the hobby?

I spend 1-2 hours looking at ebay everyday alone and sometimes more. And God only knows how much time I spend on this glorious Forum. I currently am jobless so I do have a lot of free time on my hands though.

There's many things worse than spending too much time looking at and researching coins. I guess I am trying to justify why I keep doing it. No justification needed, I'll just keep doing it.
Grace, hopefully in a few days all will be good.

i think right now I spend 2-3 hour. that includes everything. looking, reading, ebay, talking to others, and this forum. which I come to atleast 5 times daily. at all breaks, lunch and after work and sometimes before. But this is now the only forum I go to so that cuts down a little of my time. But money is very tight at my house right now so I am not spending as much time as before since I am not getting new stuff. so when I start buying again then it goes to 3-4 hours daily. SInce when I buy I get out the camera and that takes time since I ma not really that good at that. Oh ya my wife think I am addicted to. and spend to much time with my coins.

When I got back into this wonderful hobby (a little over a year ago) I was very addicted. I started at a young age and stopped after I got married and had a family, and after 19 years decided to start back up. I could not believe how much things changed and what I missed over the years. I bought books, albums, QX5 Microscope, magnify glass, coin supplies, etc.... My wife thought I was going a little crazy. Now that I am caught up and found this great forum, I have relaxed a bit. I now read this forum more than post in it. I would say I usually log-on this forum 3 to 4 times a day to read the active topics and while at work, I have this forum up in the back ground and read it through out the night (I am a 3rd shift or grave yard guy)
My family thinks I have coin on the brain syndrome...

I only spend about an hour a week, but for my husband (Gary Burke), it's a different story.
While he was working at two jobs for many years, coin collecting was pretty much a dormant thing for him. With partial retirement, he is totally back into it again. For him, I would guess 15 hours a week.

I spend may 4-5 hours a day on the Internet reading about coins and maybe 1/2 hour on ebay looking at coins but very seldom buying on ebay. maybe an hour on coppercoins forum more here and about 3-5 more forums that I visit. then a few minutes buying coins from other sites heck I think I am addicted too lol I never thought about it before but maybe I am a bit obsessive about it but as long as the wife don't complain it is not a problem when she starts complaining I will either get a new wife or slow down a bit lol not really she rules the nest. but I am the boss of the house but only because she said I could be an acting boss for the time being lol. OK I spend a lot of time on the Internet and looking and reading about coins but coins rule too Gary too

Wow!
Most of you guys put me to shame!
I average only 1-2 hours a day with coins, usually at times when most other people are sleeping. I hope in my retirement years, I can do a lot more coin stuff in the middle of the day.

Ask my wife. No wait a minute don't. It'll take her a minute to tell you her answer and then I'll here 5 hours of how I'm wasting my time!

Since I've rec'd this collection from my Grandfater, it's been 3-5 hours per day. This is the most time consuming hobby I've ever been involved with. It takes GREAT patience, good photography skills and hours of research. Since I'm a noob, I think the research part is really killing me....but....I'm really enjoying it!

Well when I first started my parents got upset because I spent all my time on coins including school hours! But since this forum I went down a couple notches I say I spend 2hours or less a day oncoins since I collect basketball cards too.

I spend maybe an hour a day, maybe less. Too much work and other commitments. On Friday afternoon I usually get to the coin shop for an hour or two...that's always nice. I've tried ebay, but it's too boring to sift through all the garbage, lousy pictures, etc. I guess I've got a short attention span.

To bad you don't live around me. You could point out to your wife the people next door. They argue constantly due to him playing with his motorcycles, cars, campers, cycle club members, drinking enough beer to keep Millers in buisness. Now the people on the other side of me watch TV about 30 hours a day I think since no one ever sees them, they talk to no one, no one talks to them, they never come out of the house, let their 2 dogs out at 2 or 3 in the morning each night. Then you could show your wife the people accross the street that the guy goes out fishing on his boat every weekend, so he says. Never takes any one with, never brings back fish. On the block I live there have been approximately 60% divorces since I lived here and no coin collectors. Spending a little time with some silly coins is better than some of this stuff around here.
