I bid on an item, paid it through pay-pal. received the package a very big and expensive package, it had everything in it that was listed. I got a good deal. I thought, the person packaged the goods very professional and safe . Also it arrived very quickly. I was happy. I gave the seller great feedback. (he has not given me feedback yet at this point. then I see a negative . the person was talking mess basically. the first problem he was the one confused w/ the feed back. the second problem he would not give me feedback until I gave him feedback which has been the rule so far for me on ebay. Except for the one auction I bid on, that was Colin's not only was the feedback great, he could have fussed because I ran into some pay-pal problems .but it was before I gave him feedback. by the way I believe I definitely got the better deal. fixed because of Forum Mom and DAD. thank you Mom and DAD The rating system although a great measurement tool , can be false. if you received payment a week before I received the item, they should rate you then, and not after they see your positive or negative feedback, that is retaliation. the seller has since sent me a return email backing up his comment with an apology and a comment withdrawal form of some sort. What do all of you experienced and professional ebay'ers think Edited by scoutjim99 06/15/2007 1:43 pm

I think that if I sell you something, you're not getting feedback from me until I'm sure you're not going to stab me in the back. I state that (well, more politely ) in my auctions, and have not heard a cross word about it.

I have never sold anything on ebay. I have only bought on ebay. I don't mind waiting for my feedback. To me the transaction isn't done until I am happy with the sale. Once I feel the transaction is okay I leave feedback. I don't wait to get my feedback first. I have received it both before and after I leave feedback. That's okay just as long as they leave it. I have had some that didn't leave any at all when everything went smooth. That's what get's my dander up.

In my limited experience on ebay I believe the seller should give Feedback last. It is there product that is being sold and shipped and their business name that is on the line.

So even thought your end of the deal was successful, quick and accurate. You should not get a good rating?. But say the sellers product was not good etc. First I would contact the seller to remedy the situation before I would give them any negative feedback. So as a buyer I should give them an opportunity to rate me negatively only because I gave them a bad rating, and not based on my own true performance and actions . I don't believe that is how the system is suppose to work. I have never ginen anyone any negative feedback anyway. What I did some how by my fault or others was give the the seller a neutral rating. Not intentionally if a person would read the comments left , one would be sure that the buyer was happy. I guess I am ignorant of the ebay world

I have seen buyers instantly give a Neg Fed if they received the wrong item or broken item without even asking the seller for help. Me not giving feedback until they do IMHO keeps them in check so that they will ask me questions if there is a problem because they know that if they give Neg Fed they more then likely as as well because they are not a good person to deal with. If I give someone a positive feedback and the item arrives broken and they leave a Neg....I'm kinda burned with nothing I can do about it.

I have got to say I have never held someones feedback hostage until they left me mine, I feel if they paid for the item they also paid for the positive feedback and I know I do my job to get it out quickly and package it to the best of my ability so if they want to leave me negative feedback they would have done so wether I had their feedback tied up in the corner with drops of water dripping on its forehead anyway

That's not really my intention but I guess it comes across like that. I honestly just don't want to get burned by someone for no good reason and no one else is going to know that they are not a good buyer. I believe that if they are trusting me to purchase my items then they can trust me to leave a good response after they do. However it is kinda 2-sided.

ScoutJim,
I gave you feedback on the item you bought from me before you left it for me because I knew you from this forum. On the item you bought from me you did the right thing by emailing me that you were having Paypal problems and I was confident you would get the Paypal problems resolved. As soon as you paid me I left you positive feedback. However, it is my usual practice as a seller to wait until the buyer pays me and leaves me feedback, because until they do, I still don't know whether we have completed our transaction successfully. Until the buyer accepts the item and is satisfied with the item, our transaction may not be complete. I am glad you got this seller to retract his feedback. Sounds like he confused you with someone else.
Colin

Jim, if you check seller's Negatives on ebay, you're going to see that at least a third of them were left by buyers who gave the seller no chance to make the problem right (not counting the frauds, of course). In many cases, the Negative feedback is the first time the seller hears that the buyer is dissatisfied. If buyers usually did the right thing - give the seller an opportunity to address any problems - I'd be fine with leaving feedback first. But they don't.

G'day, I've never sold on ebay. I've bought plenty. ebay is a bit unbalanced, but I can't think of a better system, so I don't bother grizzling. I bid; I win, I pay: only then does the seller despatch the goods. I have to wait and see what turns up. The seller takes no risk: he keeps the goods until the money arrives. Feedback is a means for buyers to satisfy themselves that they probably won't get ripped off. I don't think sellers would care much about feedback: just "show me the money". So if sellers do/don't leave feedback, it hardly matters. About 50% don't bother in my experience. Peter in Oz

I've sold 7 "major" Certified coins on ebay over the last few weeks (ICG Certified varieties of the Washington Smooth Edge, in single & double errors & various grades), averaging over $125 each, all to the same buyer. The good: This buyer pays promptly with Paypal. And the fact that he's the winning bidder obviously means he was willing to go higher than anyone else on these bids. The bad: This buyer doesn't leave feedback. I think it's because of the large multitude of purchases he makes. I've even emailed him requesting Positive Feedback but no response. But he keeps bidding on my coins. I keep leaving him Positive Feedback because I feel that he's completed his obligations in paying promptly & I'm hoping that he'll reciprocate. The other bad is that I was hoping to build my "Positive Feedbacks" as a seller by having happy customers. My luck, my one repeat happy customer doesn't leave feedback. BTW, my final auction of my final 4 (3 single coins & a 3 coin lot) ends today in 2 hours & he's the winning bidder, so far, on 3.
