I have played around with acetone before, but not on any coins that I would be unhappy if I messed them up. I just got a 1999S silver proof set mainly to get the Kennedy for my Kennedy Dansco (only about 8 to go). Anyway, the Kennedy and a couple of the quarters are toned. The Kennedy is toned in the fields but the toning on the chin/cheek is really troublesome (looks worse in hand than in the pics). Is the Kennedy below a candidate for acetone or should I leave it alone? If so, should it be a quick dip and a rinse? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That "milkiness" is a product of the mint washing regimen, from what I've read, and nothing short of a wire wheel will remove it. And you don't get to know if it'll appear for as much as years down the road after purchase.

Many proofs will develop that hazy toning if improperly stored, acetone will not touch it. It could be removed with a dip in E-Z-Est but I would not recommend it because it is tricky enough with an MS coin but proofs are really easy to mess up with a dipping.
