I just read through ebay's fees page, and I'm totally disgusted at how much it will cost to sell. What are other good online marketplaces? Main thing to me is that it should have the ability to reach a sizable audience like ebay. I'm also hoping for a per listing fee only rather than a % of item cost. I'd also like to buy more. Mostly I buy online from Amazon, but they're horrible for coins. There are some great sellers at ebay with over 10k positive feedback and they deal in bulk so the deals are usually better.

Suggestions?

If you're disgusted at ebay fees - don't ever look at the fees for any of the big numismatic auction houses. It's not unusal for a minimum of $25 per coin to list + fees + VAT + buyers fees (which are really more sellers fees) etc.

You can try webstore.com. It allows you to open your own ebay type store. It's all free and is rate # 1 as an ebay alternative, by on line reviews. It has even won awards, it has many of eBays features. However selling is slow. It could benefit from more people listing.

You can't have all of your wishes in one place. Any ebay alternative will fall woefully short in terms of audience. ebay hovers around #20 on the Internet in visitor traffic; Ecrater - probably your best alternative - is next-closest at about #7500.

You want to sell? Open an Ecrater store. Even if you're going to sell on ebay too. That's the site with the best chance of someday being a big player, and they charge 2.9% (not counting Paypal or whomever's fees for payment). Even that number is optional; they charge it only for sales coming from their Marketplace and you can simply not pay it (the penalty being your stuff won't show in the Marketplace).

And, for the words I always write in these threads: If ebay's fees put you off, it might be worth reexamining your business model. ebay represents far less overhead than any other business model before it, and is cheaper than any bespoke auction house. Cheap coins are not easily profitable. It's that simple.

I feel its just the same to buy coins at flea markets and car boot sales than ebay. Ok you dont get your buyers protection if the coin you buy turns out fake from a flea market or car boot sale but by the time you pay post and package for the coin you are paying pretty much the same amount of money when it comes down to buying silver coins at a flea market or boot sale just have a set of digi scales and if the weight is what it should be for that silver coin then you can almost be certain that it silver and a genuine coin.

If there area any coin shows in your area, go to them. I've found over many, many yaars of coin collecting, nothing beats a coin show for sales, buying, trading, getting to know people, having fun, learning things and much, much more. Nothing beats a coin show. And by me, no entrance fees, no parking fees, no postage, no handling, no insurances, just coins, coins, coins.
I can't imagine ever buying anywhere else.

I see some members have ecrater stores, I wonder how sales are on there? To me depending on available time, it would be best to list in some of these free venues, and see the results. If a coin sells then cancel the other listings for it. It may be a strategy that works.
