This coin just looks odd to me. It's almost like it's cast and has a edge that looks joined on the rim. 400584135591 What do the experts think? Ben ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

If your gut instinct says something isn't right, it probably isn't.

Id' guess fake. The crack going across the face stops then starts, the pics are not very clear plus lots of wear on the coin make it hard to tell.

There is the same level of detail either side of the cracks. Question: are those 'cracks' incused into the coin or are in relief above the coin's surface? What intrigues me is the edge of the coin, near Washington's hair tie. I was first thinking some sort of contrived PMD, but the edge in this location forced me to re assess. It is a pity that you can't post a picture of the edge of the coin, because it is not in your possession.

Well, they can't take a pic to save their lives, but I think it's real. Not sure I would pay that much though. More like $4 to $6.

Looks like 2 deep scratch marks from long ago and then circulated enough to wear it down.IMHO It's a damaged coin and worth a quarter

I'm so glad I found CCF!
The coin experts on this site are the best. I was doubtful on this coin only because of the things I was told to look out for. The only reason I was, came from all the information I've learned reading post here.
I've always wanted a shattered die coin and a quarter would have been great. I was about to bid on it and THEN started looking at the coin's details. I came here for backup on what I saw that looked wrong and got the answers I thought I'd get.
I'll keep away from this one.
Thanks again for all the help and for saving my money for me.
Ben

Not a chance of that being die cracks; the only "legitimate" explanation for this is a strikethrough of a strip of metal thin enough to allow detail transfer and I'm not optimistic of that either.

It didn't sell. The opening bid, that I almost bid, was $25.00 with a buy it now of $125.
I did just what I should have, as vermontensium said, and I went with my gut. Too many things didn't look right. The coin didn't have any eye appeal and looked as if it had been put together.
SsuperDdave's explanation sounds correct. Even if it was a strange worn down strikethrough it wasn't an error for me.
The seller has nothing else listed now, but it looks like coins are only a sideline of items that they sell. Most items they sell are clothes, sporting goods and a few coins mixed in.
