I've been looking (drooling ) at the set registry of the 1911-26 pennies on the PCGS set registry. Why doesn't the registry cover all the possible die pairs such as the English/Indian obverses? Seems to me that as a few of the sets are 100% complete the only way to upgrade them is by competing for the rare die pairs. With the weighting given to the rarities it could open the field up for a fresh round of competition.

I think its probably due to the lack of expertise at PCGS in identify aussie varieties coupled with a lack of demand (although I am not suggesting there is not a market for rare die pairings)

I understand that PCGS has a less than perfect expertise in foreign coins, but the people who submit coins like the '31 dropped 1 Indian would probably know what the coin is and ask for it to be properly attributed. As for demand I did read recently that the slabbed MS64+ 1920 penny made such a high price because of the competition at the top end to have the highest grade possible, so the swinging doodles with deep pockets would probably relish the fresh competition. So they are missing 12 rarities (and I'm not including things like wide dates).

I've made the same inquiry to PCGS. They will only add a coin to the Set Registry or Pop report if it is in the Greg McDonald catalogue. Although they've made exceptions to this in the past (ie, the 1942-I penny with missing mintmark was added to the pop report), they will no longer recognise varieties, different die pairings, and so on unless they're specifically mentioned in the McDonald.

Thanks Eric. I don't have access to latest Mcdonald but I know he listed the 1920 dot Over Top in his 2006 pocketbook, but the PCGS set registry doesn't have it. Very inconsistent of them.

Yes, until recently, PCGS didn't have the 1920 double dot either. When I get time, I might have to email PCGS to have the dot above added.

I believe the dot above has been added.

Thanks Nightparrot The addition had to have been only in the past week or so. Maybe they read this forum and respond to us? Now to get the English/Indians to their attention.

You can let PCGS know if there's something missing from a registry set and they'll add it for you. Here's a link (not sure if it will work unless you are signed in and in your sets needing to add an item just to your set). Meaning you have to have a certificate number for them to deem it reasonable to add in this case. http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/MyS...328&s=103355

Thanks for the advice PP. I've now joined the PCGS set registry.
