Hello All,

Been avidly collecting for a year now (with a lot of help from this forum-thanks) and SL Dimes have started to catch my eye. I collect on a budget, so I though coins from this series might be a good idea. I don't really know about completing a set, but I like the design and all coins from the 1800s are just cool!

It seems that I could get a decent collection of commons in the F 12-15 range for a reasonable price. I actually like the "dirty" looking ones, not those polished up or dipped.

Any comments, advice, or thoughts on this series would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's a fun series, but there are some deceptive rarities. Even just a date set will have its' problems with 1844, 1846 and the Civil War issues which got melted by the thousands. With that said, it's not subject to large collector demand so you'll find prices rather depressed by comparison to real-world rarity.

Here is a good reference of varieties from coin community as well as grading standards.

Once I get some money I would like to get a VF+ example of each and I think that would be a nice set. You might just want to try for a good example of each of these too
