After buying 50 cardboard 2x2s for my Morgans, Peace and Ike dollars and stapling a few in the I came to the conclusion that silver dollars are just too big and thick to make a neat 2x2.

Mine bulge the thinnest part of the cardboard out and don't completely seal the coin. I even tried to staple the thin part but that doesn't come out very neat either, nor do I like stapling that close to the coin.

So again, I whip out the debit card and order a box of Guardhouse plastic 2x2s. They make a much neater collection of big dollars while still fitting in 2x2 boxes. I and like the seal much better than the cardboard ones. I'll still use those on the smaller coins.

I have not had a problem with that on my 2x2s. Could you post some pics?
Rest in Peace

I'm sure a number of CCF people have,"been there and done that."

But, there must be cheaper and better ways to go?

the cardboard 2x2s do kind of distort on larger coins. but I use 2x2 binder pages so hard capsules not an option.

i seal the edges with a white sticker, if worried about off gassing from tape adhesive then use Saflips.
Rest in Peace

CC2012 could you provide some pictures of yours.
Just trying to see the perfect fit in a 2x2 for a Morgan,Peace or Ike dollars.
The OP , IMO is correct. These are a bugger to enclose in the standard
card board flip.

I wish I could say the same. For the large dollar coins, I probably use an average of three 2x2s trying to get it right.

I prefer to up-size my holders (half dollars in large dollar holders, quarters and baby dollars in half dollar holders, etc). This extra Mylar is much more flexible than the cardboard. The problem is that I cannot up-size the holder for the large dollars without moving to a 2.5x2.5 holder.

You can always use 2.5 x 2.5 flips and cut them down to 2x2 size.
I have done this with Aussie crowns and the 10z Roos as well and they come out nice and neat.
They all fit into my 2x2 album pages without issue.

I've always had this problem (and was beginning to wonder if it was just me) and went to the 2.5 x 2.5 flips... I just leave them that size though... I actually like the size, as I store in boxes, not pages.

It would be nice if there was a six pocket page for Dansco albums to hold 2.5x2.5 holders. If there were, I would use them to hold my miscellaneous large dollars.

It would be nice if I looked before posting this...

Time to do some thinking.

I too used to wonder why some dealers have Silver Dollars in 2x2's that bulge at the edges and others just fit flat. Then I stated to ask dealers. Many at coin shows told me it is a tuff mess finding out which 2x2's are which. By that you have to find that there are many manufacturers of 2x2's. Some have the cardboard thicker than others. Some have it so no room for a Silver Dollar inspite of them saying for Silver Dollars. On some the platic is thincker making it so the coins put in don't strecth a bit while others allow the plastic to stretch enough for a better fit of the Silver Dollars. The problem is finding out which is which since none have the manufacturer's name or identifying info on them. At many coin shows and coin stores the 2x2's are sold in bundles, not in a company's package so you just don't know.
The only thing I could figure out how to do anything is to buy a Silver Dollar in a 2x2 where it fits well. Change the coin for one you want, sell the one you got in the 2x2.

The 2x2's I have don't fit Ike's but yet that's what the holders were sold for. However they do hold Canadian nickel dollars nicely. :)
