I don't know if this happens to everyone on the East coast, but I find it very hard from the Boston area to find a Wheat penny from pre-1950 that has a D mintmark. I've been penny roll hunting for two years, and my only pre-1950 D mintmark is a 1942-D. Its kind of weird, because for me, Denver 1950s are extremely common. They are pretty scarce from before that. How is it on the West coast? I'd like to know.

Ds are the most common mint mark to find her in MN on just about every denomination and date range. I have rolls and rolls of 1940s-1950s d wheats. 58D and 44D are the most common.

Quote: Denver 1950s are extremely common. They are pretty scarce from before that. The reason for that is partially location and partially it's mintage. Before the 1950's the Philadelphia mint made the most coins. In the 50's the Denver mint made the most coins. Some mintage examples below between the two mintages. 1944 - 1,435,000,000 1944D - 430,578,000 1945 - 1,040,515,000 1945D - 266,268,000 1956 - 420,745,000 1956D - 1,098,201,100 1957 - 282,540,000 1957D - 1,051,342,000
