I have been buying off E-Bay silver half dollars and Quarters over the last 3 months when the price is right. Most of the coins have been very worn specimens but I did get some that are in XF condition. After getting a run of 64 Kennedys, I started winning auctions for Walking Liberty and Franklin halves for around the same price as the JFK's. After receiving them in my hand I have come to appreciate and love the Franklin half dollars. Don't get me wrong the Walking Liberties are sharp as well but the Franklins just stand out to me. Anyone else feel this way about them? When money frees up in a few months I might start collecting each date and mint mark in AU or better condition and complete the series like I did with the Roosevelt dimes.

Franklins are a reasonable set to pursue...not that many dates to cover. Unless you get into variants like "bugs bunny" and such, it is one of the more attainable (and affordable) sets out there. Is also one of the more overlooked sets as well. If you strive for "full bell" then and only then can this set be challenging (and pricey). This is only my opinion....others may vary

I just got a couple of proof sets with Franklins included ('60 and '62). They are really beautiful in uncirculated condition.

I love franklins. Cameo Franklins are simply amazing. I am doing a set of fbl coins and as stated above it is getting challenging and pricey. Great looking set though.

The thing about Franklins is the short run they had - which leaves pretty much any and all options open for collecting them. You can collect these in just about every imaginable form and not be out too much money. (there are some tough ones). This is also one of my favorite coins - the walker being a close second.

Did someone say "variants"? They are usually not much more expensive than "regular" issues. I chose a DDR Franklin for my 7070 Type Set, I would like to find a FBL in the future.

My brother collects Franklins and loves them. His best one is a 1961 proof graded PR64 by PCGS. The only Franklin I have is a circulated 1955.

Franklin halves were one of my first completed sets but now I focus on cameo proofs, they are gorgeous!

I'm sure it's been asked and answered but...why the short life span of the coin? I thought all coins had to be produced for a minimum 25 years. JFK's death?

JFKs assassination. Without that theres probably never a Kennedy half and we could still have the Franklin today

I love those cameo,s. I just checked ebay quickly, some are only 5 to 10 dollars more than a circulated Ben. They are stunning. I just might build a cameo set as well. I love those mirror effects they give.

I might as well. I heard that the cameos are really pricey though.

Quote: I heard that the cameos are really pricey though. They are compared to the normal ones, but its really the first three years that are brutal. After that you can get reasonably priced ones and they dont start getting really pricey until certain grades for the most part.

I really like Franklins also. I would say that a Walking liberty is a more attractive coin design, but I find Franklins more desirable.
