Every book and every online source I have read has said that the only $100,000's in existence are in the hands of the US government. I think I just discovered that to be wrong. Looking through ha.com archives I found a $100,000 uniface specimen sold in 2005 for over $74,000. Apparantly at least 3 exist in private hands. Do these things even have a friedberg number?!?!? I think not!

Why would a $100,000 bill sell lest than $100,000?

A single sided note would have no legal status as legal tender. Rarity / demand value only.

It's in the 12th. edition ( 1990 ) of Paper Money of the United States by Robert Friedberg and and is listed as 42,000 being printed. It's also in the 19th. edition
( 2010 ) of the same book by Arthur and Ira Friedberg with some colored photos of the note.
