I've just started looking for Ladder, Radar, Pairs, fancy serial numbers bills and the like lately. I don't have many bills so far, just a few star notes and things like that and want to know where can I find information on serial numbers to collect and values? Good books? Websites? And I'd like to know who on CCF are the experts that know this stuff.

I've just learned about Web notes and test paper serial numbers and would love to know more, lots more and CCF seems to be the best place I've found to get real answers to my questions.

I found this bill recently and it's it in, what seems to me, a fairly nice grade. If anyone could tell me about what grade it would be from the photos, it will get me started. Also, is it just a buck, have any worth or does it qualify as a fancy serial number or anything else?

I see so much junk listed on ebay as rare and valuable that I'm lost and want to learn what to look for and how to verify that it's really rare and worth saving and maybe having graded before I make a fool of myself trying to sell a dollar that's worth no more than 100 Cents.

Thanks to everyone who can help! This is a new part of collecting for me, so I'll really excited!

Make me rich and I'll send you a card for Monaco!

THANKS! Ben

I think the best site to look for values would be ebay, it's what people are willing to spend. And grade for the bank note you posted looks like an AU-58.

For fancy serial numbers...

Yokozuna, something else to add to your list to watch for if you haven't already got it.. a friend of mine at my coin club found a us dollar with DIFFERENT serial numbers on the same bill. How's THAT for being observant!

I thought that this was a ladder note, but I wanted to ask first to make sure I was correct. I figured that bills and coins will grade with the same basic rules. Looking for wear, folds, pin holes, stains and tears is about the same as looking for wear, scratches, rim dings ect. so I had this bill figured at around a mid AU, maybe a little lower.

I know how to spot a web note, but have no idea of where to check the value. I'll have do lots more checking to find values by serial numbers, not just by the number printed.

I have the star note run counts and I know the smaller the run size, the more the bill is worth, but I don't know how the run size is valued. I'll also have to learn what serial numbers are linked to the BEP paper test.

Lindy!

Yes, I know about the mismatched serial numbers, and had one years ago, but sold it. I also have a nice gutter fold dollar now.

I'll just have to learn a new branch of the hobby. I already know a good deal about coins, but the serial numbers add a whole new aspect to finding the rarity of the items.

Thanks for the information, and if anyone has the names of books and other websites, please let me know here or send me a message.

Now I'm off to start searching the web and looking for all of the information I can find.

Just when I start to think I know what I'm looking for in coins, I get to start all over with currency. If the coins didn't drive my wife crazy, we'll see what this does.

Thanks!
Ben
