Hi all,
So I was given this 1652 PT large planchet shilling the other day.
Weight 88.2 grains
28 mm dia
<1 mm thick
I'm fairly certain it's fake but maybe someone out there knows more about these than me!
Thanks!

A full weight example is 72 grains and based on the weight of your example, I don't think it's genuine.

It's a non-contemporary copy. Lettering and date are all wrong for a genuine Shilling.

The typeface is a variant of Optima, which was designed in the 1950's.

Welcome aboard, CCgold!

I seem to recall that many of these were sold by some New England area coin company back in the 1960's. The details elude my memory though. Despite being a copy, it makes for a neat conversation piece to share with other collectors. Genuine ones rarely appear in public, so it pays to know about the copies!
