I counted up my found wheat cents for fun. 224 in total and 51 different varieties.

You must have quite the hoard of Lincoln cents accumulated!
Not really. I quit roll hunting in the late 1990's; unfortunately this was well before I decided to keep all copper.

My tiny hoard has grown from circulation finds. However, that may soon change.

I currently have $160 face value of 1950 wheats with brobably $300 face value total. I also have 700 indians and $200 face value of pre 1982 pennies. I kept those 2009 pennies as well when I find them.

Why did you quit coin roll hunting, jbuck?

Several reasons. The biggest being time, but another was losing my inside girl at a bank I was using. (She moved away).

I had filled all of the holes that I had expected to fill from roll finds. At this point I was just accumulating/hoarding duplicates. While the wheat cents were still plentiful, the silver finds had pretty much ended.

It was my inside girl who would alert me to the rolls that looked promising (she knew what to look for). This saved me a lot of time, only having to go to the bank when it was worthwhile. One time, an older man made a point to tell her to make sure his rolls ended up in the right hands.

It is important to note that all of my rolls were CWR. I have never searched a box; if they existed then I never knew about them until I joined CCF.

I sill contemplate rejoining the hunt, but I am afraid it is too late for me. Regardless, I do enjoy reading the finds here.

I am not (yet) at that point where I find only duplicates. I admit that the majority of wheats I find are duplicates (however I am constantly updating my collection based on condition). I still have a ways to go before I never get a hole filler again.

My most common wheats I have not found yet are 1955-D and 1946-D. I usually compile a list of the highest mintage types I have not found yet. D mintmarks are frustrating in the Boston area. Lately I have had better luck with them.

For the 40s I have 1942-D, 1944-D, and most recently 1945-D. I have all of the Denver 1950s except the 55. No D's from earlier decades. Who knows, a hole filling Denver may be one box away...

1955D is one of those 13 I have, also one of 10 I didn't by.

Looking at a 55D I pulled from a CWR a few days ago. Snapped something in my ankle today, so I was reading above posts and said, "wait a minute, think I have one", and had to hobble across the room to find it... and did.
No doubling that I can see, and figured I jump into the conversation before the game starts

DeadheadRI-

Cool find. That 1955-D will be pretty rewarding to find common or not. Every hole filler is a victory for me!

What a game last night. I'm feeling the effects of staying up until 1 am. I'm near Boston so that was great!

Boston Strong!
