Quote: the mint is the reason that congress couldn't get rid of the cent so far. they refused to stop making it. I believe you are in error. The mint makes them because the Federal Reserve orders them. The Fed orders them because their banks order them. The banks order them because their (commercial) customers demand them. The customers demand them because they hand way more out in change than they ever get in return. If the mint was not selling them to the Fed, they would not mint so many of them (if at all, expect maybe as an NIFC collector offering). The mintage is set by demand. The demand for the cent is artificial. We are either too incompetent to use the ones we get on future purchases or we think they are worthless (relegating them to the trash or change jars). Either way, the cent is a useless waste of our obviously limited resources.

Yes ! I can see it now , picture the headline : The country is under siege from CCF memebers who are heck bent on stripping the country bare of all pennies ! Quote: Assuming all goes as plan and the cent ends production, we now control the largest hoard of unsearched cent rolls (no peeking). We make them available to the masses, for a fee of course This was the best part ! For a second there I thought I was reading the plot from a James Bond movie ! Quote: Who is with me? Best plan I have heard all day

Excellent plan, jbuck... We need to pull every last wheat and Indian Head from circulation! If we let them naturally and gradually disappear from rolls, it will be too late! We penny roll searchers are on borrowed time! Sooner or later, the penny will be canceled and rolls and boxes will be hard to come by. I'm with you jbuck! Now it is our mission to collect all antique pennies. All wheats must be destined for our collections, not the melting furnace or landfill! Hoard very single one! Pledge that you will do so too! My lifetime goal is to get as many date and mintmark combinations before the wheat is gone! It is urgently important now.

This is the official beginning of the:
Cent Reclamation Movement (CRM)
Everyone, get very last wheat you can find! Here are only some of my finds that have been rescued from circulation and the eventual discontinuation of the cent:

There could still be rare dates out there floating around in rolls and change jars. CRHers on this forum have found 1930-D, 1926-S, 1922-D, and other scarce types of wheats. My rarest from a roll is 1935-S. We can't have these antique coins being destroyed! Rarities are out there, just waiting to be discovered by CRHers. Go CRM!

I've heard of some collectors that have hundreds of thousands of wheat cents in their hoards. Must take up a ton of space.

Fortunately, the discontinuing of the penny probably isn't that high on the government's priority list with all the other issues facing the country. Even if it is seriously discussed Congress will disagree about it for far too much time.

I'll hoard any penny I find, regardless of design or metal content.

I'm with YoshiRules on this, I keep every penny, and not just because I live in Canada. My Wheat cent collection has a large number of 13 coins in it
