Hi
How is it that a 1995 nickel weighs more than almost any year quarter....Average quarter weight is 4.47 grams and the 1995 nickel weighs in at 4.62 grams..?

Its gotta be the composition: Maybe Nickel is heavier per volume than steel, Nickels are slightly thicker than a quarter.
Great question.

That's what I thought to pennyman007...but if you weigh other nickels around that year, they seem to be lighter than even the quarters..strange.

My guess is that new qarters are made of cheap metal. Pre 65s are 6.25. Its not that the nickle is heavy.

Nickel is indeed denser than steel, and copper is slightly denser still (which the '95 nickel is mostly made from). A coin made from cupro-nickel should be something like 12% heavier than the same coin made from steel.
