$10.00 of materials (if you have an iPhone)

If you have an iPhone and a cheap laser pointer, you might have the rest of the stuff needed to build this microscope.

I plan on modifying this to work with my iPad. Very cool looking for closeups.

Note the end of the video has a link for parts list.

Mods - The system seems to be having a Microsoft Moment here...please look in my original post, I used the Youtube insert button but the code does not seem to want to work? Tried it from scratch 3 times.

*** Staff Edit - Fixed. When you run into this problem make sure the only "string" at the end is the v= one. I removed the #t=162 and it worked fine. Most of the extraneous stuff the forum software usually removes automagically. ***

I am considering building one myself but does it also zoom out to take pictures of the whole coin?

I know that one of the pics in the video is of the whole dime - I have not built one yet to find out.

BStauss - thanks for this direct link - the reason I did not post it there is b/c in order to see the entire thing you have to have an instructables account. It IS free and, I admit I highly recommend someone setting up an account. Anytime I go to design/build/fix anything I check here first.

kind of defeats the purpose of magnifying doesn't it?

the iPhone takes some pretty awesome pictures of the "whole" coin all on it's own:

Just as a side note, I didn't use an iPhone with this setup. I used a Kodak pocket camera.

Makes a lot of sense - I would think any device with a good camera in it would do the trick.

I want to build this setup. Where do you get the laser pointer (magnification lens)? Do you need the light? If yes, where did you find the one in this project? Couldn't you use the phone to zoom in, and not need the lens from the laser pointer? Finally, is there a post for the construction instructions in writing? Thanks, Ham.
