It is not THE DDO. It looks like MD to me. John1

Yep, agreed the 1969 was a year in which there was a LOT of Machine Doubling going on. Heck, most of the late 60's through 70's suffered that condition. For it to be a doubled Die, it truly has to show an addition to the affected area, not any cutting away of the date or letter at all. Most Machine Doubling that I see on a regular basis is either hilly and shiny, or it looks like a mini payloader takes a chunk out of the date or letter with its bucket. Some of the WORST Machine Doubling I have ever seen was on the 1972-P bag I opened, it had Machine Doubling which even I did a double take on. For the 1969-S There were only 30 or so known. Now add up all the pennies since then, which is probably close to a trillion, and divide by 30. The odds of finding one is pure luck. Sure it could happen, but extremely rare.

Yeah the 1969-S DDO is quite blatant with a huge spread between the date digits and IN GOD, LIBERTY, and so on, if you had that you wouldn't have to be turning the coin this way and that trying to get a better shot. The spread on the 1969-S DDO is nearly as wide as on the 1955 Doubled Die. Best Regards, George VDB Coins

It's not one of those that "jump out at you", it's one of those that "pounce upon you".

Quote:Just for the record, this is the 1969-S DDO: That is the 69-S DDO #1, but it is not the only 69-S DDO. We need to remember that when someone asks "Is this a 69-S DDO?". All too often people take a quick look see that it isn't DDO #1 and say no without further investigation. Most of the time it will be MD, but every so often a real DDO will come by.

The 69-S DDO #1 is the only one worth pursuing.

ummmm He asked if it was a DDO, and the answer still remains the same.... Nope. Sure there are other varieties out there but one has to have one in order for the people here to help decide what type it is.
