I got a catalog from the US Mint in the mail the other day. Just thumbing through it and I see they are selling a 2013 W Silver Eagle for $43.95. I can't see any value in paying the extra money for a bullion coin just because of having the W mint mark. I know the mintage will be lower but that's besides the point.

They really arent bullion coins unless you consider anything made out of silver to just be bullion. Aside from the mint mark theyre made and handled differently

Try to remember there are many US Mint workers that need a new car, house improvements, kids in school, groceries and all the stuff you and me need. So the Mint sends out such advertisements just as auto dealers, AT&T, Sprint, Sears, Etc. do every day. By you ignoring those, many people will soon be out of work and then what? No more US Mint?
Just as you ignor mailiings from all kinds of other places, simply ignor that one tooooooo.

I read somewhere but cannot remember where, the differences between a bullion ASE and the UNC-W ASE are 1) the W mint mark. 2) the planchets are blasted (not sure which media is used) to give them a satin finish. 3) the coins is struck like a proof coin in regards to the force and the number of times the coin is struck.

I don't think that they are pressed differently, but they definitely are handled differently. The planchets are hand fed into the presses, when they are removed they are inspected and boxed. Bullion coibs are machine fed and then dropped in a hopper with other bullion coins. The percentage of high grade unc coins is much higher than bullion coins. However the numbers even out somewhat due to the sheer numbers of the bullion coins.

Maybe yes and maybe no. Did you order that catalog? Possibly not. Once you order something from almost anyone today, they sell your name and address to a zillion mail order places. Don't believe it? Look around for someone that gets a catalog from almost anyone. Borrow it and send in for one item. Then watch as your mailbox gets bombarede with tons of junk mail and catalogs. A story not to long ago was about a person that sends for all kinds of such jumk mail and uses it to heat his house.
