I have a 04 o morgan that I have determined to be VAM 1b3, but it has this on the obverse, plus a small area on the reverse rim. these Cuds are not mentioned on the vamworld page, and I don't really want to crack it out of the slab (ngc) to get a better look. does anyone know about this particular VAM?

Many little things are not listed in most VAM listings, on VAM World the official listing have to state only what Leroy Van Allen wrote. For a Cud to be listed on a Morgan dollar the Cud has to be extend into the field.

VAMworld has a picture on loan from TeleTrade that shows the Cud. Check out the specific VAM page. It might take a little enlarging, but I don't think it is as large as yours.

That's rim crumbling, not really a Cud.

I was told it is called rim finning by LVA in one of my submissions (I think it was an 89-O 13B crumbled stars) But it has been a few years so I could be wrong. It looks like it eventually did lead to a Cud but this is to early of die state to list, although it would be cool to have to put in a set next to other examples with the Cud or earlier or later die states. Here is a link to a site explaining rim finning. http://www.error-ref.com/finning.html
